Kikitori
Kikitori is an Android app for practicing Japanese by listening and repeating. It comes with 148 short phrases like the ones you hear in anime, in 3 levels and 10 topics, from greetings and school to slang and gaming. Each phrase has romaji (the Japanese in English letters), an English translation, a word-for-word meaning and a note about the kind of scene it's from, and most have a pronunciation tip.
A session is 7 phrases. The phone says each one out loud in its Japanese voice while the text stays hidden, then beeps, and you say it back. The app writes down what it heard, scores you from 0 to 100, and shows which sounds you missed and what it heard instead, then shows the phrase and its notes. Your score decides when the phrase comes back for review.
It's an Android app built on the phone's own Japanese voice and speech recognition, so it can't run in a web page, and it isn't on Google Play. That's why this page has screenshots. They were made on a computer from the app's own screen code with sample data, not captured on a phone. No speech was played or heard: the microphone level and the words heard are sample values, and the app's own scoring code worked out the score of 88 from them.

Phrase 4 of 7: the app says the phrase out loud while the text stays hidden as ???. The stars show its level.
Listening: once it says “Hearing you…”, the bars show the microphone level and the words heard so far appear below.
